Launch! Weever Apps is here to change the Mobile Web.

Written by

As web designers, we quickly recognized that our green business and community not-for-profit clients had no way to affordably participate on the mobile web. So we took a walk. We spent two days hiking on the Bruce Trail (near Tobermory, Ontario) talking about the future of the web. We wanted to make the mobile web more affordable, accessible, and democratic.

Now Weever Apps is here! The basic version is only $30 per year now free and we want your help to get the word out.  Plese share our story on Twitter and beyond!

Details on Weever below - Thanks! - Andrew and Rob

Have you ever wanted to make your Joomla! or Wordpress site a mobile app?

Weever Apps is a new service that allows visitors on mobile devices to view your current website as a true web app for iPhone, Blackberry6+, Android and iPad - instantly and affordably!

Weever Apps Features:

  • Web Site Pages, Blog Posts and Articles
  • Twitter and Facebook Feeds
  • Videos from YouTube and Vimeo
  • Photos from Flickr and Foursquare
  • Click-to-call and contact forms
  • GPS-based map display (coming soon)

Zero Install Required

Weever apps look and feel just like ‘app store’ apps (machine apps), but deploy instantly in a mobile browser. Weever bypasses the normal download and installation requirements for mobile users. A Weever App can be installed to a mobile device like any other app, but installation is not required.

A Weever app is compatible with every popular touch smart phone and tablet device out-of-the-box.

How it Works

Weever’s ‘app management’ panel allows you to manage the app directly from your web site. You can upload a logo and choose the content and social media you want to display for mobile devices.

When a mobile user accesses your site, they are directed to a full-screen app that loads instantly. A Weever app updates in real-time: as you change content on your site, you change content in the app.

Weever allows you to maintain only one website without having to manage a completely different mobile platform. No more fussing with ‘native’ app development or secondary, mobile-specific web platforms. Creating a new app with Weever takes about five minutes.

Visitor and Content Advantages

Since Weever Apps are web-based, a direct link to an individual app can be shared as a regular web site address or by QR Code. Each Weever App includes a unique QR Code for use in web, print and promotional materials.

Additionally, Weever Apps are search engine compatible, displaying matching content in-app for incoming visitors from Google, Bing and other search engines. Machine apps cannot provide this kind of search engine friendly functionality.

Changing the Mobile Web

Weever Apps is the brainchild of Canadian inventors Andrew J. Holden and Robert Porter – two ‘green web developers’ who work with wind-powered web hosting and open-source web site platforms like Joomla! and Wordpress. They were frustrated with the app-store ‘hoops’ and high-costs of the growing mobile web.

“The mobile web is growing – and fast! Yet 80% of small businesses and most not-for-profits have *zero* mobile web presence. Unfortunately, current app development is expensive, technically complex, and out of reach for most individuals. The ‘app store’ is not an acceptable solution for the future of the mobile-web.”

Also wondering why the tutorials have no sound. Is there a way to fix this?

The tutorials for app-building? They don't have sound because there's no audio.

You'll find text descriptions in the lower-third area of the video. If you need more help and info, we're happy to do what we can - also see http://support.weeverapps.com as a resource for your free app.

Why don't the tutorials have sound? Makes them worthless!

    Other Vimeo work fine.

Let me know when they're working.

    Windows XP service pak3

IE8, PaleMoon, Chrome or Firefox, all the same.

    Thanks
