Solving that little Joomla! JCE Editor and CSS Thing

Written by

joomlaQuick tip: JCE is a wonderful editor for Joomla! - free, useful and powerful.  But after a default installation (particularly with the useful K2 CCK for Joomla!) we often see the following error message:

* The file name 'templates/templatename/css/editor_content.css' was entered in the JCE Custom CSS field. This file could not be found in the default templates folder. *The css file '/templates/system/css/editor.css' is being used instead.

Here's the fix:

  1. Open Your Text Editor.  Great!  Save the empty file as jceblank.css
  2. Next, upload the jceblank.css file to your template's CSS folder.
  3. Finally, navigate to 'component' --> 'jce administration' --> 'configuration' in the administrator area of your Joomla! site.  Choose 'No' for Use Template CSS? and enter:
    templates/$template/css/jceblank.css
..in the Custom CSS File field.

That's it!  Now your editor will include a very simple display of paragraph and h1, h2 text, etc. - quite useful if you have a CSS-rich site and the online-editor isn't going to approximate 'how things will look' very well anyway.

A Quote for your Consideration:

selling the idea of a better future."
